tory assault on council tenants

I was going to write something on the appalling policy of ending security of tenure for council tenants which looks likely to be embraced by our Con-Dem masters.

However, I found that Luke Akehurst had already written pretty much everything I wanted to say here.

The ward I represent has the highest concentration of council housing in Southend. There are some serious and deep seater problems in these areas, but there are also many people working to resolve them.

Forcing people to move if they attain a modest income is wrong on so many levels. It would be hugely disruptive and distressing for those families and it would lead to ghettos where only those who have no choice remain.

All attempts to lift those neighbourhoods would be shattered.

There are encouraging signs that at least some people in Lib Dems may have found a point of principle that the won’t sell out on. Let’s hope this policy goes no further.
