Balmoral Residents’ Group

Last week I attended a meeting of residents of the Balmoral tower blocks. It’s one of about five residents’ meetings in the ward that myself, Margaret and David regularly attend. In my opinion it’s really important that local councillors attend such residents’ meetings as regularly as possible. Sometimes you can offer practical help and advice, but even when you can’t help directly it’s important that when you’re in the Civic Centre discussing policy you know what real people in your ward are concerned about.

It was great that a member of the group had actually reported fly-tipping and gave the council information that led to the perpetrator being fined. The only way we’ll beat those guilty of environmental vandalism is if we all work together to supply information to the authorities that can be acted on. I proposed that the story be given to the local newspapers, so that people get the message that action can be taken and it is possible to catch and punish the people who harm our environment.
