New Fair Havens?

One very controversial decision that the council will have to make soon is whether to allow the building of a new hospice on green belt land in Belton Way, Leigh-on-Sea.

Havens Hospice is a much loved local charity that has touched the lives of so many people in the town in caring for terminally ill children and adults. They can’t provide the standard of service or the number of beds they would like at their current home in Chalkwell. However their choice of location for a new hospice, greenbelt land in Leigh, has proved deeply controversial. Large petitions are circulating both for and against the development.

Havens have just announced two “Come and See” sessions for local people to talk to them about their plans:

  • Friday 14th October, 1-7pm, Southend Central Library
  • Saturday 15th October, 9-5pm, Southend Central Library

Councillors who might have to vote on planning issues must avoid giving the impression that they have made up their minds about an application before they hear all the evidence, so I’m not going to say what I think about the application just yet. However I’d be very happy to hear people’s views.
